Some families and sessions hold a special place in your heart. This storytelling family session featuring Seth, Lauren, and their adorable little guy, Holden, is one of them. The Ward family welcomed me into their cozy, historic home to capture their family portraits, and it was truly an honor. Their home isn’t just a house—it’s a piece of history, a place where generations before them laughed, loved, and built a life. From the moment I stepped inside, I could feel the warmth of the memories held within its walls.
In-Home Storytelling Family Session
The Ward family home was originally built in 1908 as a boarding house in Canyon, Texas. In the 1960s, Seth’s grandparents, Jim and Jackie, moved it to their land. where they raised their family and filled it with memories. They lived there for decades until Jim and Jackie passed in 2012 and 2020. Then, Lauren and Seth moved in July of 2022. Now, they want to raise their family here and carry on the family legacy.
One of my favorite things about this session was capturing this sweet family along with the story of their home’s next chapter. Seth, an artist himself, recently moved his saddle shop into Jim’s old art studio. He does incredible leatherwork, builds saddles, and even plays in his own band.
Photographing them in a space filled with history, memories, and so much love was a reminder that beautiful family sessions don’t require a grand or exotic location. Sometimes, the most meaningful setting is the one where your life unfolds every day. Whether it’s your front porch or a sunlit room in your home filled with your family’s laughter, the real magic happens when you capture genuine, unscripted moments.
I had the best time capturing this sweet family of three, and their adorable pets, throughout their home just enjoying each other. Holden played, ran around, drove his tractor, and loved on mom and dad. Candid moments like these are what make images so special. They tell your unique family story and allow you to look back years from now and relive precious moments.
